Kelis: The Pink Avatar

Posted by Rion at 3:57 PM 0 comments
So I'm doing my daily celeb gossip update and I run across this pic of Kelis:

When I first looked at her I was like WTF! She looks completely crazy BUT the more I looked at it the more I kinda liked it.....just a little.  Kelis is known for her unique fashion sense:

And it has always worked for her.  I personally love her style. I call her the original Rihanna. But anyhoo back to her outfit.....

The jumpsuit is very Amber Rose-ish. The crown is very Lady Gaga-ish, but if she took off the chains, eyelashes, and cut that rattail off, the outfit could work.

Winter Blues

Posted by Rion at 5:14 PM 0 comments

So they say that boots are made for walking, but between the months of January-March, that is the last thing I want to do in my boots.  See in Ohio winter means snow and snow means salt and salt means stains on my boots!

It's so ugly! But thankfully there are ways to remove the stains here is an article from ehow with step by step directions:

Changing My Major

Posted by Rion at 9:37 PM 0 comments

So I started school this week after a much needed 6 week break.  However over the break I got to thinking about  my career choices and realized I was not happy with my major.  It all came about when I was filling out my application to actually get into the Social Work program.  One of the essay's I had to write was on the reasons why I want to be a social worker.  And don't you know I could not think of 1 reason! I googled and I still could not think of anything! And writing is my speciality.  I can write a 500 word essay in an hour.

So I knew I needed to change my major. The thing is I've changed it 3 times before so I felt like a loser. I took the situation to my home girls and GUESS WHAT!? They googled and found out that the average student changes their major 3-6 times! That made me feel so much better (leave it to your BFF's right).  So I went ahead and scheduled an appointment with an advisor and found out that most of my classes will work also apply towards a Psychology degree....so I did it. I changed my major yet again.  But I'm very happy with my decision and pray that this time next year I will not have doubts about psychology.

 Caution
By Jill Scott

 It’s been nice

Yes

Laughing times

Early morning love

Walks

Meaningful kisses

But I’ve been hurt before

The kind that can change a life

The kinds that makes a body wary

And I must say that I am taking special care

Not to care so hard

While I am mostly open to love you

I prepare to let you go

So I will ask upfront

Before my stomach is knotted

Can I take my shoes off now?

Can I put them next to yours in the upstairs closet?

Can I relax my soles?

Hang up my winter coat?

Unpack my bag for more than the night?

Because

I like you

I really like you

Weave-a-holic

Posted by Rion at 7:06 PM 0 comments
So I was surfing the web as always and I came across a "confession" by the beautiful Joy Bryant.  She talks about her love affair with weave. And I must say I totally agree. I am a newbie to wonderful world of weaves, and I am def making up for lost time.  They are sooooo addicting! It's so easy to change your look:

Friday:

 Saturday:

Got to love it! Anywoo here is Joy Bryant's article:

Ouch! My tailbone really hurts when I sit on hard surfaces or slouched down in a chair for too long. That’s what I get from busting my butt from too much snowboarding. It makes it really hard to sit in a salon chair for hours on end getting my weave hooked up.

But oh, how we suffer for beauty…I must bring a pillow next time.

As the threads of the grown-out tracks were being snipped, I broke out my laptop and began my ritualistic daily web search. I go from news of the day to articles/blogs about the news of the day, ending up on entertainment/gossip/fashion stuff.

But that day, something caught my attention and trumped all of the glowing reviews of President Obama’s health care speech:

It was Tyra’s hair.

National Real Hair Day? I missed that one…In fact, on National Real Hair Day, I was calling Extensions Plus in L.A. to make sure they had enough of the 20” “relaxed roots” texture hair that I love oh so much (and that keeps selling out like crazy!), and making an appointment to get my hair, I mean, my weave, hooked up.

So Tyra, while I didn’t take part in your observance, I just want to say: “WOW!” You are such a brave woman for breaking the chains that bound you since your teenage years! What courage that took, for you to expose yourself to millions of people! Such fearlessness!

Oh, how I wish I had the guts to do that. I guess I’m much too much of an insecure, self-loathing Negro for all that self-acceptance foolishness.

I’m glad we got down to solving the mystery of what’s under your lace-front, though. I mean seriously, it was “THE” question that has perplexed the world over. And now we see that there’s a beautiful head of hair underneath it all, hair that was surprisingly relaxed and ready for the world. Whodathunkit?! If I had the same length and fullness of hair that you have, I might take my weave out too.

Ha!!!! I’m just playing! Even if I DID have your “real” hair, I’d still be wearing a few tracks or clip-ons up in there.

Why?

Because I’m straight weave fo life, kid!!!

Ima ride ride wit this weave, die die with this weave!!

Let me break it down for you:

See, I loooooove taking new hair out of the bag, combing through it with my fingers, holding it up with my two hands, and burying my face in it. Mmmm, mmmm, mmm! Nothing like a new batch of zig-zag curly to get your self esteem out of the dumps!

The feeling of getting my hair, I mean, my weave done over. I feel human again. I feel sexy. I feel powerful. It makes me feel…it makes me feel…it makes feel like a natural woman!!!

I can be whatever, whoever I want to be with the stroke of a sewing needle…

With long brown tresses and a tan, I’m Pocahontas, ’cause I got Indian in my family. With easy waves, I AM bohemian rhapsody goddess personified. And now that I got blond highlights! What!? I know I look like Beyonce! You can’t tell me nothing! Uh oh, uh oh…

And then I looked up from my computer, and caught a glimpse in the mirror of my head minus the long weavy locks. I looked crazy! Awww hell naw! I looked over at the new batch of hair sitting off to the side waiting to join forces with me. Damnit, I’m trapped, I thought to myself. I can’t let it go. I am powerless over it. Just when I think I’m done, it pulls me back in!

Now I guess I can get help for my self-loathing addiction.

I can learn to accept myself in my entirety. I can emancipate myself from that which keeps me locked-up. I can embrace the natural state of things.

Yup, I can do all of that…

But don’t hold your breath!

Hi, my name is Joy, and I’m a weave-a-holic.

Now I Ain't Saying I'm a Gold Digger....

Posted by Rion at 6:29 PM 0 comments

So over the weekend my friends and I did what we do best: DEBATE.  Whenever we are together we love just to go back and forth about our opinions on anything and everything.  So on Sunday we got on the topic of money.  The ladies arguement was money can occasionally make a man look better.  Take Labron James for example:

           Before                                                                   After

*Sigh* Moment of silence.....ok but we were saying, once CERTAIN men get money it gives them confidence which totally transforms their look.  If we saw Jay-Z on the street, not only would you keep it moving, but you may have to hit your girl and comment on how ugly he is.  But with money Jay is the definition of sexy.

The guys didn't neccessarily disagree, but they said it is totally different for them.  When they see someone that is cute she stays that way regardless if they have money or not.  The ladies brought up several different famous females that have obviously changed their look:

Keyshia Cole :

           Before                                                                             After

                            Rihanna:

              Before                                   After

Nothing worked. They were either cute from the first time they saw them, or not cute from the first time they saw them.  Blah.  So basically they flipped the whole convo and made up look like shallow gold diggers.  But I sticking by my opinion. Money changes people.....THE END

Random Fashion Tip: Buttons

"Replace the plastic buttons that blouses and coats often have with some pretty vintage buttons or just unusal looking ones to individualize a basic piece to make it look more striking."
