Posted by Rion at 11:47 PM 0 comments
I have no idea what these awards are for *googling* ok they are basically the equivalent of the MTV awards. Pop culture.....

The Brit Awards, often simply called The Brits and stylized as The BRIT Awards, are the British Phonographic Industry's annual pop music awards

Alicia

Leona

Alexandria

Lady Gaga

Just kidding. But really I think this is too much even for her.

Fashionista of the Day: Solange

Posted by Rion at 10:36 AM 1 comments
So I am obsessed (is that my word for the week or something) with the Knowles sisters. I mindlessly follow Beyonce and Solange like a puppy. Beyonce comes out with a perfume I buy it without even smelling it. Solange wears a fab blazer I'm on shopstyle trying to find a similar one.  I LOVE THEM!! So in honor of my infatuation here are some of my fav looks from my big sis Solange (and I thinks she rocks the natural like no other).

My Latest Obsession: Ancient Egypt

Posted by Rion at 10:23 AM 0 comments
Ok so as previously mentioned I started reading Nefertiti a few days ago and WOW! I am completely obsessed with Ancient Egypt now.  Now I'm the type of person with will obsess over something and then be completely done with it 2 months later (probably why I just can't stay in a long-term relationship).  Lets see last year it was African American culture.  I was a hard core militant black person(I'm like a walking contradiction. Didn't I just right about interracial dating).

But I wasn't angry at White people.  I was more so disappointed with the ignorance in our culture.  If it was up to the majority of us we would totally forget about Africa.  Oh and don't get me started on the whole "color" issue within our community.  Who cares if we are lighter than a brown paper bag?  I love the fact African American families are one of the few cultures that can have a rainbow of shades under the same roof (my mother is butterscotch, I'm caramel, my brother is toffee, and my stepfather is chocolate). And the more I read the worse it got. Now my anger has cooled down.  I mean don't get me wrong I'm still all for our people, and love reading FICTION on race issues, however I"m on to the next one.

Ok I'm so busy blabbing about African American's I've forgot what this post is about....oh yeah Egypt.  So anyways as I was saying *clearing throat*

Ancient Egypt is my latest obsession. I love to google different names of people and places and looking at the pics.  They are gorgeous! I try to imagine living in that area and I actually think it was so glamorous.  I looked at my universities class schedule and of course they do not have a class about Ancient Egypt (racist). So I plan on going over to the library and reading as much as I can about them

I've started a new historical fiction book called The Heretic Queen.  Its about the 19th century Egyptian Dynasty with Nefertari (Nefertiti's neice) as the main character. I haven't read enough to give a yay or nay but I will be sure to let you know.

Interracial Dating

Posted by Rion at 10:30 AM 1 comments

So I just got my March Essence magazine in the mail today and the topic of interracial dating was a hot topic.  Apparently many of the readers had their panties in a bunch over fine and sexy Reggie Bush on the cover of an issue about relationships. How dare they put this man dating a White...I mean Armenian woman on the cover of a magazine meant to empower African American women.

Personally when I saw the cover my mouth watered *moment of silence*  The last thing I was thinking is who this man is dating. (Especially since I hate the Kardashawhores).  Because for the hour or so it took me to read the mag, he was mine all mine.

The comments in the March Essence made me recall an African American Studies class a few quarters ago.  During one of the professors lectors the topic of interracial dating came up.  And let me tell you it almost caused a mini riot.  I go to a predominately white university but in the AAS class there were maybe at the most 5 white students.  For the only time at that university Blacks were the majority.  So anyways most of the Black people both male and female all agreed its not right to date outside your race.

Of course I had a different opinion.  I beleive you can't really control your emotions.  You can't really control falling in love with someone.  And no I wasnt raised around white people.  I'm from the hood.  Now I've never dated outside my race, BUT I'm open to the opporunity (praying my momma never reads this).  I mean don't get me wrong, when I see an attractive Black man with a snow bunny on his arm I automatically give the Oh No You Didn't look.  But after a few seconds my mind catches up with my heart. He can't control the fact that his soul mate happens to have the wrong pigmentation.

I personally think Indian(people from India not Native Americans) and Italian men are some of the most beautiful creatures ever made.  They literally take my breath away.  But when I really stop to think about it would I actually date them? *sigh* IDK? I mean what would my family and friends say?  And oh my gosh can you imagine when we went out in public?

See that is the mentality that's holding me.... no holding us back.  We as Black women are the first to yell I'm not married because all the BLACK men are taken by WHITE women.  Ok if thats the case what is holding us back from exploring different races?  Why do we have to sit around waiting for Black men to come to their "senses?" Why not find love in different places?  By not doing so are we actually perpetuating the stereotype?

YAY! I am a huge fan of Monica.  I'm talking since 1992 when Miss Thang came out.  Monica has just release her album cover to her highly anticipated album, Still Standing.  She looks absolutely gorgeous.  I will be buying this CD come March 23rd.

I'm Just Sayin.....

Ok before I start my rant let me just make it clear I love the company I work for (which will remain unnamed.  This is the internet.  Even "private" blogs aren't really private).

I live in Ohio and right now snow is up to my knees (and I'm 5'9) and still coming down.  How on god's green earth do they expect me to come into work.  Yesterday I attempted to move my car and guess what!?  It got stuck.  Ok so maybe that isn't surprising.  But how about the garbage truck got stuck on my street as well.  And they have about 10 wheels!  So I call in and tell my wonderful company what happened and let them know I highly doubt I will be coming in.  I wake up today and guess what!? Once again this fabulous company I work for expects to come in.

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL... KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT... FOOD... AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.
That is an excerpt from The Weather Channel's winter storm warning.  Umm I don't think work counts as an emergency.  But I guess my lovely company cares more about meeting their goals then their employees.  Ok so what's going to happen to those goals when all of there employees are in the hospital because of the car accident they got in trying to get to work because we can't afford to lose our jobs because the economy is so bad........

Nefertiti

Posted by Rion at 6:06 PM 0 comments
So anyone that knows me knows I am hardly ever seen without a book in my hand, purse, desk....some where nearby.  I love to read and will read just about anything.  So recently during one of my many Target excursions I came across a book entitled Nefertiti.  I'm really into Ancient Egypt (I promise I have some Egyptian in me).  So I bought the book .  This is my first time reading historical fiction and I must say I am impressed.

There are a few of words and terms used that I'm not familiar with so of course I turned to my trusty friend Google (he never disappoints me).  Turns out Nefertiti has a really interesting history.

Nefertiti is known for her beauty. The picture above is highly recognizable but I personally never knew who it actually was.  She was King Amenophis Great Royal Wife (main chick).  Unlike most "Queens" who kinda played it cool and stayed in the background, Nefertiti made her presence known and actually played a major part in many of the decisions the King made.

Nefertiti and her husband played a major role in changing Egyptian religion from worshipping many gods to one god (or something like that).  Because of this they had many enemies and rumor has it when she died Egyptians mutated her body to make sure she never "lives" again.....haters.  Anyways Nefertiti is responsible for double ear piercing! Who knew.  Ok I'm done with the history lesson.  Now back to your regularly scheduled program......
